How to estimate final pay when a contract ends

Check the outstanding amounts when employment ends. The Spanish term “finiquito” refers to settling amounts owed; rules vary by jurisdiction.

What final pay may include

Outstanding salary, accrued unused holiday, unpaid additional salary payments where applicable, and other agreed amounts may be included. Final pay is not the same as dismissal compensation.

A simple example

For a €1,500 gross monthly salary with ten days unpaid, an initial approximation is €500 gross (€1,500 ÷ 30 × 10). Other amounts and applicable deductions must then be added or subtracted.

Before signing

Check dates, the applicable collective agreement, payslips and unused holiday. Seek employment advice if you disagree or are unsure; claim deadlines can be short.

General educational information. Examples are illustrative; check the conditions and rules applicable to your situation before making important decisions.
