PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to calculate your savings rate

Calculate how much of your income you manage to save.

Add net income

Use the money actually received during the period.

Calculate savings

Subtract actual spending from income; exclude transfers between your own accounts.

Apply the formula

Savings rate = savings divided by net income, multiplied by 100.

Compare periods

Review several months: one unusual purchase can distort a single month.

Worked example

If you save €300 out of €1,500 net income, your savings rate is 20%.

These examples are educational and may not fit every situation.
