How to reduce your electricity bill without sacrificing comfort
Review your tariff, habits and appliances to identify potential savings.

Check your contracted capacity
Where your tariff includes a contracted power limit, compare it with the maximum capacity you need. Reducing it too far can interrupt your supply.
Review time-of-use prices
Compare energy prices and the hours covered by your tariff. If prices vary by time, move laundry or dishwashing to cheaper periods when practical.
Avoid unnecessary consumption
Turn off lights in empty rooms, use LED lighting and switch off standby devices where safe.
Review heating, cooling and insulation
Choose reasonable temperatures, ventilate at suitable times and check draught seals around windows and doors.
Compare the whole bill
Look beyond the price per kilowatt-hour. Check capacity charges, extra services, taxes and contract commitments.
Put it into practice
Start with one change and adapt the rest to your circumstances. Regular reviews are often more useful than attempting everything at once.
