Digital files

Your photo is too large for the form. What should you change first?

Work backwards from the upload limit while keeping the details that matter readable.

Read the two limits

A form may ask for a maximum file size and specific pixel dimensions. Write both down before editing and keep a copy of the original.

Try one change at a time

For a 4000 × 3000 photo, resizing to 1600 × 1200 keeps the proportions and leaves 16% of the pixels. The final file size depends on the format and the image itself. Check the exported file against the actual limit.

Zoom in before uploading

If the form needs a photo, export a JPEG if accepted. If it needs a screenshot with small text, try PNG first. Read the smallest letters at normal size. If they blur, return to the original and try a less aggressive setting.
